Brad enjoying himself on a dive at Southwest Reef

I became an instructor on the 31st October and this lined up perfectly with Brad’s trip. As an OWSI I am allowed to teach the following specialities:

  1. Peak Performance Buoyancy
  2. Project AWARE
  3. AWARE Coral Reef Conservation

I have completed the EANx and O2 Provider specialities but they haven’t shown up on my professional record as yet so I am not allowed to teach them. However, Brad already his EANx speciality and I didn’t have access to an O2 kit so that meant that I could only certify him for the main OWSI specialities.

When I was at work Brad read Our World, Our Water and in the evenings we went through the presentations. While, we were out doing our pleasure dives we chose two of the dives and added the requirements for the PPB speciality. I have to admit that Brad’s buoyancy has come on leaps and bounds since he first started diving in 2012. I was very impressed. He has great control and was able to hover perfectly while doing his safety stop – a full 3 minute hover.  He even practised hovering in different positions with a varying degrees of success.

Today we completed all the knowledge reviews,  I processed his PICs and issued him with his temporary cards. I am so happy that I was able to start certifying

Well done Brad! So what’s next for him? I think it will have to be the Rescue Diver and then on to Master Scuba Diver.
